The COVID 19 pandemic has caused havoc in the country and has put the education system into disarray as the schools are shut once again. However, despite several challenges, Rotary Clubs across the country are doing an exceptional job of transforming schools into Happy schools.
One of the milestone projects executed under the Happy School program was undertaken by Rotary Club of Bangalore Junction. The club has transformed 100 Government schools in Doddaballapur Taluk area, located in the outskirts of Bangalore city in a record time of just 10 months.
The club provided basic infrastructure facilities as per RILM’s Happy School program. E-learning kits, paint for school building, gender specific toilets, sports equipment, books and furniture for library, Benches and desks, Furniture for teachers, Hand washing station and availability of clean drinking water.
Apart from all these facilities, the club also provided Science Kit, Google earth for Geography classes, organised discussion on importance of washing hands, hosted talk on Menstrual hygiene by leading gynaecologists with free distribution of reusable sanitary napkins and incinerators at 2 schools, planted nutrition and fruit bearing trees in every school, E-learning system - 50 inches smart TV, loaded with all digital content as required.
The project was inaugurated by the RILM Chair RI Director Kamal Sanghvi on 24th April in presence of RID Dr. Bharath Pandya; RIDE Dr. Mahesh Kotbagi, Co- Chair , RILM; District Governor Rtn. Nagendra Parsad; Sri Chatru Menda of Menda Foundation ; Sri Arvind Garg of L&T; Smt. Bhagya Rangachar of CLT;DGE Fazal Mahmood ; DGN Rtn. Jeetendra Aneja;, PDG Rajendra Rai ; PDG K.P Nagesh, District Trainer and host of RI officers and Presidents of various clubs in RI 3190 and other Districts on a zoom platform.
To ensure that this remains a continuing project, the RCB Junction has planned to take up the next100 HAPPY SCHOOLS for implementation during the year 2021-22.
