RC Calcutta distributes food items to underprivileged children under Annapurna Project

While the sudden outbreak of Covid 19 made a long lasting impact on public health, economy and society, it also aggravated an existing problem that our society was facing even before the pandemic i.e Hunger.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the COVID-19 pandemic could add as many as 132 million people to the total number of undernourished in the world this year.

Rotary Clubs across India has been conducting several food distribution drives to cater to the hunger issue.

On 7th June, Rotary Club of Calcutta with support of Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) under project ANNAPURNA handed over cartons of biscuits and other food items to RCC Stars Welfare Society at Tangra. These food items were provided to RILM by Indian Food Banking Network, food Bank partner of RILM .

These biscuits were distributed to the underprivileged children residing in the areas of Topsia, Tangra and China Town, Kolkata. The distribution took place at RCC Stars Welfare Society in the presence of the community chairman Rtn. Atindra Nath Sen and Rtn. Arindam Roy Chowdhury. The total no of beneficiaries is around 250.
